Katie Brown RVN
Katie joined the group in 1999 and has worked in veterinary practice for the past 30 years. She qualified as a vet nurse from Sparsholt College and is our Head nurse at our Fair Oak surgery. Katie enjoys assisting in surgical theatre and looking after the animals post operatively in recovery. She particularly enjoys pets returning year on year to the practice creating a friendly bond with the patient and client.
Laura McGrath RVN
Joining us in 2008, Laura works at our Park surgery. She has her VN assessor award which allows her to coach our Veterinary Nurse Students through our RCVS accredited nurse training scheme. Laura particularly enjoys the anaesthesia and critical care aspect of veterinary nursing.
Laura Butcher RVN
Laura qualified as a veterinary nurse through our RCVS accredited training scheme. She completed her training at Unicorn Vets & Sparsholt college. She enjoys general nursing especially nurse clinics and the husbandry of small furries and exotic animals. At home, Laura has a golden retriever, three cats and two chinchillas.
Pippa Manning RVN
I qualified from Sparsholt college in 2014. I enjoy all aspects of nursing but particularly in patient care. I also have an interest in canine behaviour and training. At home, I have a mischievous English springer spaniel called Izzie and I enjoy takin her for long walks through the new forest.
Sharon Candy RVN
Sharon works at our Fair oak surgery and is currently in her second year at Sparsholt College studying veterinary Nursing. Sharon has been working at unicorn for 18 months but has had a few years experience in the veterinary industry. Sharon is a mature student and decided to go to college once her children had grown up. At home Sharon has a cockerpoo puppy called Betty who is very lively and keeps Sharon busy when she is not at work.
Gabby Corry SVN
Gabby has just joined us our Park practice as a mature trainee and is looking forward to starting her registered vet nursing course at Sparsholt in August. After many years in social work, she is loving learning all aspects of vet nursing and being around animals all day. When not at work she can be found running, motorcycling and spending with her partner Hugo and their border collie, two cats and two dwarf lop rabbits enjoying country life having moved to Hampshire from London 3 years ago.
Harriet Burrill RVN
Harriet joined Unicorn in June 2016. She qualified in 2014 and has previously worked in both first opinion and referal practices. In her spare time she can be found out running or taking her dog Maisie to the seaside. She enjoys every aspect of being a nurse, especially patient care.
Sam Windebank SVN
Sam started at Unicorn working on reception in April 2016, She then decided to become a student nurse in Jan 2017.
Sam starts college in September and is enjoing her training so far.
In her spare time she can be found horse riding and spending time with her 4 lovely children.
Sam has 2 doggies called Ruby and Sarge, 2 cats called Rocco and Elsa and a horse named Holmes.
Jess McKirgan SVN
Jess started her student nurse work placement with us in June 2016, Siince then she has been working a few days a week at Unicorn while completing her training at University.
Jess has a dog named Poppy and a bunnie named Comet.
In her spare time she can be found swiming and horse riding.
Gina began doing work experience at Unicorn after she left school in 2001.
She then went to Sparsholt college to do animal care for 3 years where she got her diploma. she then took on the role of animal assistant here in 2006.
Gina has a chocolate lab called Candy and a cat called Mindy.
Out of work she can be found doing lots of charity work or walking her doggie Candy.
Sam Gibson RVN
Sam trained with us and qualified in 2012 with a degree in Veterinary Nursing Science. She enjoys all aspects of nursing but in particular in-patient care and radiography. At home she has a cat called Socks (pictured) and a Jack Russell cross called Marley who are both mischievous.
Kate MacDonell RVN
Kate has been working for Unicorn vets for just over a year, starting off as a locum nurse in early 2010 and becoming a permanent member of staff at the end of the year. She did her nurse training in Australia where she lived for almost 12 years, and returned to the UK in 2011 and took up residence in London. She spent the next four years working as a locum for long stints at the Blue Cross Hospital in Victoria until a change of scene was required and she and her husband decided to move out of the big smoke and down to Southampton. In her spare time Kate loves to get outside as much as possible, either on her bicycle or walking, or volunteering at the local nature reserve. She is a keen traveller and has done several bicycle and motorcycle tours in various parts of the world. Kate currently has no pets as her current lifestyle does not suit but in Australia owned beautiful rescue dog who taught her a lot about canine behaviour and was an amazing companion.
Melissa Hart RVN
Melissa qualified in 2016 after completing her Veterinary science degree at Sparsholt college. During her training for placement she worked in a busy Vet clinic developing her clinical skills. And whilst carrying out her degree she worked part time an an out of hours clinic in Winchester where she experienced a wide range of emergency and peculiar cases.Whilst working here a little stray puppy was brought in, that soon became hers and is now known as Fig! As well as Fig she also has a Jack Russel cross called Poppet and two cats, Kakariki and Bertie.
She has found a passion for animal behaviour working with birds and snall animals and in her spare time she enjoys dog walking, baking, sewing and reading.
